Man crashes twice on Interstate 89
September 2, 2007
MIDDLESEX, Vt. --A Worcester man crashed twice within 30 minutes on Interstate 89 on Saturday, police said.
After hitting a car in Middlesex, Don C. Robar, 51, crashed a second time into rock ledges between Middlesex and Waterbury, minutes after leaving the state police barracks.
In the first crash, Robar was speeding in the northbound lane when his vehicle went off the road, into the median, and then struck a car in the passing lane, police said.
A passenger in Robar's vehicle was taken to the hospital with possible back injuries.
Robar, who was uninjured, was charged with gross negligent operation.
After he was released from the Middlesex state police barracks, Robar's vehicle went off the interstate again, crashed into a rock ledge and started on fire, police said.
Robar, who again was not hurt, was arrested for reckless driving and held on $5,000 bail.
He could face more charges, police said.
"We are still looking into what, chemically, he may have ingested," said Sergeant Robert Danaher.
