Happy 102, Jim and Nora!

In honor of Bloomsday, June 16, 1904, the day on which James Joyce's Ulysses is set, chosen because it was the day he met his future wife, Nora, I thought I should post a short quotation. In honor of MoM, I have chosen the first paragraph of chapter four, in which we are introduced to Leopold Bloom, who is to become the main character of the book.

*Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls. He liked thick giblet soup, nutty gizzards, a stuffed roast heart, liverslices fried with crustcrumbs, fried hencods' roes. Most of all he liked grilled mutton kidneys which gave to his palate a fine tang of faintly scented urine.

This is a lovely and beautiful book set on a lovely and beautiful day. Go and enjoy it!

Urine aftertaste is so hard to find in the Hills where we live.
