Homage

One of world’s oldest known animals has just died.
A favourite tortoise at the Kolkata zoo in India for the past 131 years, ‘Adwaitya’ (The Only One) was thought to have been born between 1705 and 1755. His real age will now be determined via carbon dating.

Imagine how differently you would go about your everyday life, if a typical span was 250 years. Maybe just a small percentage of all people lived inordinately long? That would be interesting, too.

I'll start:

Perhaps there would be less of a hurry placed on accomplishment.

People would dream more and create more.

Failure would be acceptable.

I think we'd be a lot less environmentally insensitive.

I think we'd be more apt to speak several languages.

Maybe we'd be more inclined to get into government - at any level.

It could be that we'd be crotchedy for 200 years.

I'm afraid that I would be terrified. Right now if you make a mistake it's okay because life is short. If you live for 250 years you have all that time to reflect on how you really shouldn't have slept with that guy and how his feet did kind of smell like walrus.
